As the weather turns wonderfully wintry, thoughts turn to where to get the best gay ski deal this side of the equator.
The annual Frosty Fruits Ski Trip presented by Points of Difference Events, returns to the fabulous Hotham Alpine Resort, again offering its guests the best on-snow experience in Australia as “Powder Capital.”
The event now in its third year -dubbed Australia’s Gay and Lesbian Short Ski Week – offers all-inclusive packages to make ski vacationing easy and enjoyable. It is also the only Fly-in and Ski-out gay and lesbian ski and snowboard experience on offer this season in Australia or New Zealand. Flights are just a quick 80 minutes from Sydney direct to Hotham Airport and an even quicker 45 minutes from Melbourne.
Running August 18th to 21st, this long weekend in the snow is ideal for dead-keen skiers and boarders because the alpine resort accommodation doesn’t require travel time to the mountain. you can be out on the slopes as much and whenever as you like.
This year, the event is partnering with the team from Lick (Melbourne and Sydney) to promote the event to a broader lesbian market (Lick Lodge anyone?). There are also special Bear Huts on offer for the more hirsute members of the Sydney and Melbourne Bear communities.
Whist the event is geared toward serious skiers and boarders, there are plenty of social activities and a program of non-skier events as well. Through the Watchman package guests can experience snowshoe tours, dog sledding (with the cutest bitches around!), a scenic helicopter ride and a gorgeous sunset champagne tour.
Evenings kick off at sunset with Après as the lifts close. Each night has a special hosted event, including the Welcome Cocktail Party, hosted by Hotham Alpine Resort in the stunning White Room Restaurant – complete with a special Lick cocktail. Organisers are currently in secret negotiations for this year’s final night event, traditionally a very social party with abundant food, drinks and built-in entertainment!
A range of packages are available, starting from around $381 per day if you have your own transport and gear, which include stylish on-mountain accommodation, registration, welcome lunch and cocktail party, final night party and a FFST group orientation of the mountain. All-inclusive options including return airfares are also available.
