Join the campers, glampers and pampered as ChillOut takes the message of diversity and inclusion to the main streets of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs during the weekend events (7-10 March 2014).
Everyone loves a parade, and ChillOut’s annual street parade on Sunday morning is a brash and colourful celebration of queer country pride. The parade theme for 2014 is “Superheroes & Villians”. Get on your spandex, lycra, capes and boots and strut your superhero or devilish villain might before thousands of spectators. The parade starts at 10:30 am. Don’t oversleep; it’s a short street and brief parade. But one heck of a end to a fabulous weekend.
In early 2013, Heather Peace sold out a series of Australian shows and headlined Sydney Mardi Gras Fair Day Event. Due to the massive fun of this tour and the incredible feedback from fans, Heather returns to Australia in February for a much anticipated second tour and will be appearing at ChillOut on Friday 7 March.
Things to do & see
The twin towns of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs – nestled in the Central Highlands at the foot of the Great Dividing Range an hour or so from Melbourne – are the perfect home for the ChillOut festival. The land around there contains some 80 per cent of Australia’s natural mineral springs. Over the years, this has brought about the development of some of the best local day spas and natural therapy centres, including the famous Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa. There is also a well-equipped gymnasium, as well as many health food outlets to cater for every dietary need, not to mention art galleries, wineries, bookshops and fascinating retail outlets (many of which are gay owned).
In memory of Roz Moynihan, a true superhero whose enthusiasm for ChillOut was legendary, Chillout has created the Roz Moynihan Worthy Cause. This year’s fundraising will be to assist in a youth development program.
You can support the Roz Moynihan Worthy Cause by attending The Slowest Lunch at The Argus Dining Room. Dolly Diamond will make an offer you can’t refuse in the silent and live auctions with all proceeds going towards assisting the ChillOut Youth Development Program. Live local entertainment is all part of the fun at the Slowest Lunch!
Daylesford and Hepburn Springs (the epicentre of ChillOut) are an easy drive from Melbourne, but why limit yourself to just a day stay? Stay, play and ChillOut all weekend! It’s a long holiday weekend, and events continue through Monday.
