Taupo is situated on the northern shoreline of Lake Taupo and the start of the Waikato River. It is ideally located for island visitors, as midway point between Auckland, Wellingon and the Hawkes Bay Region.
If you are into action and adventure sports, Taupo is the ideal base with options for mountain biking, bush walks, rafting, golfing, fishing and much more. To the south of Lake Taupo is Turangi and National Park.

Tours and Things to Do – Taupo
Huka Falls are formed where the Waikato River narrows from 100 metres across into a narrow canyon only 15 metres across. Just a short 5 minute drive from Taupo this is a must see free attraction on any visit regardless of the time of year or weather. You can spend a few minutes viewing the falls, walk the 2 hour track, mountain bike or discover the falls on a cruise or jetboat.
Huka Falls Information
Taupo host numerous bike, running & other sport events throughout the year. One of the best known is the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge. This is the largest NZ cycling event with thousands of riders from New Zealand and around the world.
