Tennis tournament coming to town September 25-27
The IndyTennis Classic is an annual tennis tournament held In Indianapolis every September as part of the GLTA circuit. It welcomes players from all over the country as well as the world.
While the circuit’s purpose is to promote and develop amateur tennis in the LGBT community, they always welcome friends, family and allies to play. The team offers multiple divisions from beginners up to former college stars. This year, they are also offering women’s divisions as well as mixed doubles.
“While all tournaments are competitive in nature, the greatest aspect of GLTA tournaments is that they are renowned for their overly friendly atmosphere,” said club president Dan Fox. “Fun and socialization are always top priority,” he continued.
This year the tournament is September 25-27(Friday-Sunday) at the West Indy Racquet Club just northwest of downtown. Entry Fees are $90/$100/$110 for 1/2/3 events if you register before September 1st. Fees increase $15 afterward.
Proceeds after expenses go to Indiana AIDS Fund.
Entry fees provide a participant with guaranteed tennis play (West Indy has 6 indoor courts so they play even if it rains), new balls for every main draw match, a tournament T-shirt, snacks (bagels, fruit, chips, water, Gatorade all provided to players for free). Free lunches Saturday and Sunday plus a $5 coupon to use at a visiting food truck on Friday. There will be a players’ banquet Saturday night with an open bar.
Even if you aren’t playing, you can come out to enjoy the fun.
The team is just back from meets in Columbus and Detroit.
