This month officially makes it one year that proud and out lesbian Caitlin Crowley posted her viral “does this count as a glo up” tweet.
In October 2017, an unapologetic Crowley took to Twitter to add to the growing trend of the “glo up challenge” by posting a high school freshman photo of herself embraced with a guy right next to a senior year photo where she is lovingly kissing her girlfriend Kirrin.
Interestingly, Crowley post started a trend of its own and it spread like wildfire throughout the LGBTQI online community. But before we get to that, let’s educate you readers who aren’t familiar with the term glo up.
There’s no clear origin of the recently created term but it has been said to originate in the hip-hop community. The term’s meaning loosely is defined as grow up. Combine that with the challenge and basically, it’s a trending post of people sharing a photo of their young selves next to a photo of them currently.
Hence, Crowley’s split image of her as a freshman next to her as a senior — just with an added twist that happened to shock some and inspire others. Women everywhere were posting on her glo up post challenge with their own split glo up challenge with an added lesbian twist.
If that wasn’t enough, a year later and proud lesbians everywhere are still posting Crowley’s glo up challenge twist while others are still sharing her original post. It just won’t die out, and we can see why. It’s truly inspiring to others plus it has a huge heaping of pride and confidence.
So kudos to Crowley for helping to shine a positive light on our fearless lesbian sisters. Without you, we would be nothing and with you, we are everything. We have post some of the many Crowley inspired glo up challenge posts below.
