GayRealEstate.com is a free online portal that conveniently links home buyers and sellers with LGBTQIA realtors nationwide.
The gay realtor database is the brainchild of CEO Jeffery Hammerberg. He conceived of the website while working at a Re/Max office in the early 90s. There Hammerberg witnessed an interaction between a gay couple and a realtor followed by some unsavory employee chatter that left him with many concerns for LGBTQI home buyers/sellers.
On this particular day, the floor agent was a straight friend of mine; honest, nice and kind, but someone who had probably never met an openly gay person. After he consulted with the couple, and they left, the agent took a lot of ribbing in the back room from fellow agents that had witnessed the interaction. It was shocking what I witnessed.
While the agent went on to find these guys a home, I questioned how well they were represented. Were these clients’ best interests being represented? Was there a better way to ensure members of my LGBTQ community could be assured of fair, equal and honest representation by someone that understood the unique needs and desires of our community?
Due to that situation, a determined Hammerberg created gayrealestate.com in the hopes to mitigate potential discriminatory LGBTQI home buyer/seller experiences. Hammerberg is adamant that the over 1,300 realtors on gayrealestate.com have been “investigated and interviewed extensively” to ensure they are respectful and informed on LGBTQI social engagement while also being comfortable working with the community.
GayRealEstate.com works with agents from trusted real estate partners like Re/Max, Coldwell Banker, Century 21, and others. Users just type in their city of interest on the home page and a list of trusted real estate agents in that area will pop up. The website states that there is no obligation to the user to pick any listed realtor nor will any of their personal information be shared outside of the agent chosen.
There’s a good amount of freebies offered by the site as well: Free buyers representation, free relocation kit for home buyers and a free seller’s market analysis. Hammerberg insists that there is no hidden agenda whatsoever — his goal from day one has been to help LGBTQI home buyers/sellers find respectful and informed LGBTQIA realtors.
